    • QMplus contains the module pages for all modules within the School of Politics and International Relations. Staff can find and edit topics for every week of their teaching, access assessments for marking, and view recordings of their lectures. QMplus can be used to send out general announcements to students, such as for welcome week, and also lets staff make announcements to all students on a module.

The QMplus team can set up a module for you, create assessments, enrol students onto a module, and add them to a marking group.

    • Campus M is the attendance monitoring functionality that all academic staff must use to log student attendance in their seminars. The attendance monitoring tile (bottom right corner) allows staff to do this.

On the day of your seminar(s) you can click on the attendance monitoring tile and you should see a code for each of your seminars. This code should be given to students who can then input the code on their own QM app to record their attendance in your seminar.

You can log the attendance of your students manually by clicking "Check in students" and then selecting a student(s) and choosing the green or red options to mark them as present or absent.

Staff have up to 4 weeks after a seminar has taken place to go back into the attendance monitoring tile and update the attendance information of their students. To do this, you will need to click on the attendance monitoring tile, followed by "history" and then "last 4 weeks." You can then scroll through a list to find your seminar and update the attendance data. If you are having trouble finding your seminar you can press "CTRL + F" and enter the date of your seminar to narrow down the list.

If you are facing issues with the attendance monitoring tile not appearing or any other problem, please contact spir-qmplus@qmul.ac.uk and we will send you an excel copy of your register that you can use to log attendance while we resolve the issue.

    • Various issues can occur that prevent Campus M from working. Below we have outlined a list of troubleshooting steps to try if it does not work for you.

      • Log out and log back in
      • Try both the mobile app and the web link to see if Campus M works
      • Please double check that you are logging in using your Queen Mary staff username and email address
      • Click on the "calendar" tile and click on "calendars" at the bottom. Then untick any options that appear and log out of the app. Log back in and check if you can now see the "attendance monitoring" tile on the bottom right hand corner

If these steps do not work, please email us at spir-qmplus@qmul.ac.uk and include your answers to the below questions:

      • Can you see the attendance monitoring tile on the Campus M app? Both mobile and web versions.
      • If you can access the attendance monitoring tile, can you see your seminars and the codes? (please note that your seminars and codes are only made available on the day they are happening)
      • Can you confirm your Queen Mary staff username and email address?

If you are a new teaching assistant (TA)

Please note that you will likely not have access to Campus M for the first few weeks of the academic year. This is because HR does not immediately provide new TA payroll numbers until Mid October and these are required to correctly set up a staff profile to use Campus M.

    • The practice of making digital content usable by all people, including those with disabilities. Accessibility involves design practices that allow content to be perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.

In education, accessibility means creating learning environments and online content so every learner has a chance to succeed. By making information accessible through different formats and teaching methods, all learners can engage in the curriculum, fostering a more inclusive and successful learning experience.

      "Accessibility benefits everyone".

For any questions or help regarding accessibility, please email spir-qmplus@qmul.ac.uk

    • How can I improve my module's accessibility quickly?

On your module's main page click on "Reports" and then click on "Accessibility outline report." Here you will find a list of potential issues. Under any row that has a "failed," click on the the 3 dot/line icon on the right hand side.

From here we recommend fixing issues with Bold text and Image Alt text. These are visible as "Fix bold" and "Fix image alt text" along the headings at the top.

      Bold text

One of the most common accessibility issues on modules is bold text. Bold text doesn't appear as such on screen readers for students with visual impairments.

To resolve this, any bold text must be changed to "strong" text.

      Image alt text

All images within a module must be tagged so that students with visual impairments can have an audio description of what is in the image.

For relevant images such as historical images, a sentence or two that succinctly describe the image will work.

If the image is of a book cover or something without relevance to the course material, then it can be marked as "for presentation purposes" only.

How can I tell if something has poor accessibility?

You can access the Accessibility report by going to the module page on QMplus, clicking on "More," and then clicking on "Brickfield Accessibility+ Toolkit"

For any questions or help regarding accessibility, please email spir-qmplus@qmul.ac.uk
