The best way to
prepare for this module is to begin thinking about a topic that you would like
to write about for your dissertation.
Although no advance reading is required for this module, you may wish to do some preparatory critical
reading on the topics to be covered at the workshops. Useful guides to these
topics include:
Nigel Fabb and Alan Durant, How to Write Essays and Dissertations: a guide for English
Literature students, 2nd ed. (London: Pearson Longman, 2005)
MHRA Style Guide: A Handbook for Authors, Editors, and
Writers of Theses (London: Modern Humanities Research
Association, 2002)
Rebecca Stott and Simon Avery, eds., Writing with
Style, Speak-Write Series (London: Longman, 2001)
Helen Sword, Stylish Academic Writing (Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press,
2012)
