Key values
Key values
You have already shared some key values you consider part of your own practice, so now we will see how these might align with what the apprenticeship standards identify as values you will need to demonstrate over this year.
Above are some of the terms taken from the standards, and you will see many are likely to align with your own practice and address things you embed in your work everyday. If we try and summarise these a little more simply, we can pull out overarching themes to consider:
Theme |
Description |
Professional ethics & integrity |
Upholding confidentiality, legal standards and academic honesty. |
Sustainability & inclusivity |
Embedding sustainable practices and equal access/opportunity for all students. |
Reflective practice |
Regularly evaluating and improving your approach using evidence-informed insights. |
Responsiveness & career development |
Engaging with contemporary issues (e.g. graduate employability, policy changes) and seizing growth opportunities. |
Leadership & mentoring |
Demonstrating perseverance, responsibility and positive influence. |
Activity: Considering sustainability -Menti
Some of the values may be a little easier for you to demonstrate that others and it is worth thinking early on how you might address those that aren't instantly recognised as part of your own practice.
To begin with, we will consider the theme of sustainability. It is something that is becoming increasingly prominent in many institutions, but it may not always be easy to articulate the role it plays within your own teaching setting.
Take some time to jot down ideas on the Menti page about where you might incorporate sustainability in your educational work. Feel free to look at others for ideas too!
