Hi there to all finalists! Congratulations on completing your assignments, I hope you are enjoying the sunshine and the time to chill out!

I wanted to let you know about a couple of upcoming opportunities. The first is our very own SED Career Day, exclusively for finalists and postgraduates, where you can hear from the Faber & Faber, The Guardian, Camden People's Theatre, and the Arts Council. It is on Monday 22nd May (next week!), 2-5pm in BLOC, and you can sign up here. It will be followed by a social with free food and drink in the Arts One foyer. Hope to see you there!

Also, for anybody interested in working in Film and TV, take a look at the details below for the ESF Creative Skills Academy mentoring scheme. Register your interest by this Friday 19th May!

As always, I have SED-exclusive appointments available online on Wednesday mornings for one-to-one discussion about anything related to work and careers. If you want to book into one of those drop me a line on f.bush@qmul.ac.uk.

Hope to see you soon,

Fliss

ESF Creative Skills Academy

Are you either new to working behind the camera in Film/TV, or do you have a couple of professional trainee/assistant credits? Would you like to work in the creative industries? Are you currently not working, not in education, not in training, and London based?

If you answered YES, to the above, then look no further, as our ESF Creative Skills Academy (CSA) mentoring scheme, could be just for you! Here is a link to where you can register your interest to join the scheme, by Friday 19th of May 2023.

What this programme offers:

  • 1 virtual introductory group session, and 2 virtual 1:1 sessions (Goal setting, CV feedback, and a final review chat)
  • An in-person course of 32 hours, led by industry figures between the 12th - 16th of June.
  • Advice on anything you need support with, towards making yourself ready for work or training.
  • Ad-hoc support on applying for jobs, helping you navigate your way into the industry, bursary applications, or leadership skills for example.

Need advice on writing a cover letter, how to build your LinkedIn platform, or writing/videoing a personal statement for an application form? We’ve got you covered.

Now more than ever, the industry is calling for under-represented voices to create the vision they wish to create.

Paperwork is involved in the programme, as the ESF CSA programme is being funded by the Mayor of London’s team, in partnership with Capital City Colleges (CCCG). Therefore, all participants are asked to complete the following pieces of data: 2 enrolment forms, a bespoke training plan, consent to letting us know when you obtain a job, and an induction checklist. Additionally, to make sure that people on the course are eligible for the programme, participants are asked to prove they have the right to work in the UK, live in any of London’s 32 boroughs, proof of ID, and if you are in receipt of state financial support, then we ask for proof of this.

In line with GDPR, all information submitted is treated with privacy and confidentiality, and only shared between the EAN team and CCCG. If you require access support, or general help in filling out paperwork, please let us know, as we’d be happy to help.

Unfortunately, our eligibility criteria means we won’t be able to invite those who are:

  • Past or current Creativity Squared participants
  • Are in paid work, or training at the start of the programme. If you obtain work during the scheme however, you are free to remain on the scheme, and those who are volunteering can also join the programme
  • Based outside of London’s 32 boroughs

If you have any questions about applying please email: equalaccess@filmlondon.org.uk with the subject heading 'ESF Creative Skills Academy – query.’

To apply, please fill out this registration form by 5pm on the 19th of May 2023, as mentioned above.
