As Charmaz’s paper showed, the chronically ill not only brings physical discomforts, but also takes broad affects of suffering experienced. Chronically ill becomes disease not to "die of" but to "live with" and maybe it is more burdensome to patients. Patient’s suffering undermines the self which form different aspects, such as restricted lives, social isolation and burdening others.

Sometimes patients with chronically ills cannot do some things they used to do. One interviewer said that all activities she misses and her hunsband doesn’t walk again even he likes it very much just due to her restriction. It sounds regrettable, this instance of restricted live reflects how the restricted life has effects to herself and her loved. It maybe increases her psychological distress because she feel troubles she taken in which limits her husband’s normal lifestyle and health. As result, all of factors will gradually contribute the loss of self.

Some others interviews show the chronically ill affected social life. It is difficult to stop immediately their socialising and leisure activities at the beginning, especially for young people. They feel angry, frustrated and turn to deeply depressed. But they have to recognize that they need to handle these issues whatever the predicament they faced is. It is not easy to adapt to new life, they strive for getting a balance between rest and activity, solitude and social relationships. The challenge shows limitations of their own they accepted and the positive management for both physical and mental fields at best one as they can do.
