AI features - AI Grouping in Mentimeter

What is AI Grouping? [edit]

It is an embedded AI feature in Mentimeter that can automatically group the responses to your "Open-Ended" questions into thematic clusters (must be more than 10 responses).

How to use AI Grouping? [edit]

  1. Option 1

    • Once you have received more than 10 responses in an Open-Ended slide, a button will appear saying "Press Space to group responses"

  2. Option 2

    • Alternatively, you can press the Insights Button and select “Groups”.

    • Activating the grouping feature will look like this while loading

    • After the analysis has been done, you will see the responses appear in groups

    • You can click on any group to view the responses it contains

    • Groups will be clustered and a name or label will be assigned automatically.
You can change group names and reassign responses to another group manually.

The clusters will only be shown in the presentation view (not in the editor view) and that response clusters cannot be exported or shared.

Note: There must be at least 11 responses in an Open-Ended slide for the button to appear.
Group names or labels will be assigned automatically.

Manual adjustment of AI grouped responses

After using AI Grouping, you can manually make adjustments as to how these responses are organised.
Please note that manual adjustments can only be made in "Presenting mode" and any changes cannot be made in "Editing mode".

  1. When presenting, you can rename groups selecting a specific group

    • Click the “pencil” icon to the side of the group title to change the name.

You also can move responses between groups or create new groups if needed.

    • To reassign a response, click the three dots next to it.
You will see a list of existing groups, and you can select a different group, or alternatively create a new one.

    • If a group no longer contains any responses, it will automatically disappear.

When can you manually adjust the response groups? [edit]

These manual adjustments can be made live during teaching (presenting your Menti in class). This is particularly useful if students would like clarification, if themes emerge more clearly through discussion, or if you want to refine the categorisation in real time.

  1. You can also make adjustments after the session has ended:

    • Simply reopen the presentation, switch to Presenting mode, and edit the grouped responses.
This can be helpful if you wish to tidy the data before exporting results
, or when sharing the outcomes with others.

QMUL’s AI feature in Mentimeter  - Grouping features - things to note [edit]

  1. Grouping features

    • When you use AI Grouping or other AI-enabled features, the question and its associated responses are shared with OpenAI to process the request.

    • This is limited to the specific content needed for that function and does not provide OpenAI with ongoing access to your data.

    • The shared data is handled in line with OpenAI’s data retention policies.
