Are my lecture recordings secure?
Security
Access to EchoVideo Recordings
By default, EchoVideo recordings are only available to authenticated users. Anyone accessing a recording via a direct link or embedded video will be prompted to sign in using their Queen Mary username and password before they can view the content.
Access through QMplus
If recordings are accessed through the EchoVideo (Q-Review) Recordings activity in QMplus, users will already have been authenticated through their QMplus login and will not normally need to sign in again.
When the EchoVideo activity is linked to a QMplus module, recordings are only available to students enrolled on that module. If you would like to use this feature, contact your local school technologist for advice.or submit a request to the IT Service desk and provide the relevant module code(s). Multiple module codes can be included in a single request.
Sharing Recordings Publicly
Where appropriate, staff can make recordings available to users who do not have a Queen Mary account by generating an embed code and configuring the recording's sharing settings within EchoVideo.
Before making a recording publicly available, you should ensure that:
- You have permission to share all content included in the recording.
- No confidential, personal, or sensitive information is visible.
- Any third-party copyright material is used in accordance with applicable copyright and licensing requirements.
Publicly accessible recordings should only be shared where open access is appropriate and compliant with University policies.
Need Advice?
If you are unsure whether a recording should be made publicly available, or need guidance on sharing settings, copyright, permissions, or embedding options, please raise a ticket with the IT Service desk for the attention of the Technology Enhanced Learning Team (TELT). TELT can advise on the most appropriate approach for your recordings.
