Who owns the recording? (IPR)
Ownership
Ownership and Management of EchoVideo (Q-Review) Recordings
Recordings created while a lecturer is employed by Queen Mary are managed by the presenter, who has extensive control over their content and availability.
As a presenter, you can:
- Edit your recordings.
- Make recordings available or unavailable to viewers.
- Delete recordings where appropriate.
- Add additional presenters, who will be granted the same editing and management permissions for that recording.
During their employment at Queen Mary, presenters are responsible for managing their own recordings. When a member of staff leaves the University, responsibility for their EchoVideo (Q-Review) recordings transfers to the Technology Enhanced Learning Team (TELT), who will manage access and ownership on behalf of the institution.
Intellectual Property Rights
Queen Mary University's Intellectual Property (IP) Policy sets out the University's rights in relation to teaching materials created by members of staff, including recordings of teaching activities such as lectures and presentations.
Under the policy:
- Teaching materials, including lecture recordings, are considered University teaching resources.
- Queen Mary owns the intellectual property rights associated with teaching and administrative materials created as part of a member of staff's employment.
- Staff are granted the right to use these materials for purposes consistent with their employment at Queen Mary.
For this reason, while presenters have control over the management of their recordings during their employment, the recordings themselves form part of the University's teaching materials and remain subject to Queen Mary's Intellectual Property Policy.
