Your mentor

Each of you will have a work-based apprenticeship mentor. This is a person assigned to you by your work place who will be there to support you over the course of the programme, as well as have the overall sign-off on your completion.

Normally this person is your line manager as they often have the best oversight regarding your working practices. However, it does not need to be.

Your mentor:

-          Can be a colleague who works closely with you (usually in the same department)

-          Has a good understanding of what is required on the programme – we provide a supporting handbook for this

-          Can meet with you regularly to discuss your progress and help support with your ongoing development

-          May be asked to attend some/all tripartite meetings with you – it is always helpful if they can attend, but it is not always necessary

-          Will help in creating helpful work-based targets with you

-          Will help you find opportunities to develop evidence and experience within the workplace – this can be particularly helpful if there are areas your normal role does not always provide access to. Your mentor may recommend other connections and opportunities in other departments

-          Will review all your documents and evidence at the end of the year and have the responsibility of signing off on completion

-          Does not need to have a formal qualification in education – although this can be helpful. If they have experience of apprenticeships, this can also be an advantage

Your work place will have the responsibility of assigning a mentor to you and you will be required to inform us of who this is and provide their contact details.

If you are having any issues with locating a mentor or a change in situation with the mentor you are assigned, please do let us know as soon as possible.
