What course is this?

One area that might be a little confusing, is the various terms that you might hear when people refer to this course. Here we explore these and the difference between them.

Degree apprenticeship (DA): A Degree Apprenticeship is a type of work-based learning programme. It combines paid employment with university study, allowing you to earn a degree while gaining real-world experience in your role. You engage in off-the-job (OTJ) learning integrated into your normal role.

You are on the Level 7 Degree Apprenticeship which means this is a master’s level qualification (equivalent to a postgraduate degree).

- Academic Professional: The Academic Professional refers to the specific apprenticeship standard you are studying towards. It’s designed for those working in higher education as lecturers, educators or academic-related roles to develop their teaching and research capabilities.

On your application, you have all stated you are involved in some form of clinical education which allows you to work towards the requirements for this standard.

This award is assessed by an external examiner in what is called your End Point Assessment (EPA). There are three parts to this assessment, which, if all passed successfully, you will be awarded a Level 7 Academic Professional Degree Apprenticeship.

- PGCert (Clinical Education): During the year, you will work on a series of assignments (5 in total) which form the basis of a second award you are eligible to receive; the PGCert in Clinical Education.

This award is a postgraduate qualification assessed and given by the University. The PGCert and Apprenticeship run alongside each other and the PGCert has been designed to support and enhance the work done for the DA. The PGCert will be in Clinical Education*.

On successful completion of the DA EPA process, you will be awarded both the Level 7 Apprenticeship qualification and the PGCert in Clinical Education.

*not to be confused with PGCert Medical Education, which is a different programme
