Dear All
There are still a number of you yet to film and others who still have filming pending on other modules - for this reason it is IMPERATIVE you under go the Health & Safety training you have been already shared. This is not a "if I get round to it" scenario (details have been shared below)
Health & Safety is essential to secure the safety of those on set and the public who may be affected by your shooting. It's very easy to chase the shot when time is running out and forget to consider the hazards and dangers you are creating for yourself and others. apart from being a potential risk it is unprofessional and in some instances can be proved to be negligent leaving you liable if anything serious happened.
BASIC RULES: (Some of these are common sense, but its the easy ones that pose most potential risk)
1. never obstruct corridors, fire exits, doorways. if you need to clear a space, consider where items need to be stored safely.
2. always tie down cables and any tripping hazards.
3. Any props that can pose a danger MUST be guarded, signed in and out.
4. ALWAYS make sure that the set is hazard free and that no one including the public are not in any potential danger. "I left it there for a minute" is not an excuse.
5. The producer / first AD MUST risk assess the set - even if this is G18 or an office - or a room in a house. and remove any possible danger; a tripping hazard, something that can fall away and hurt some, etc.
6. Have a system to report any accidents - a note book that the 1st ad/producer has.
7. know where to go and what to do if something more serious were to happen. who is First Aid trained in the building? where are the exists? what happens if there is a fire? if the building has to be evacuated? Remember not everyone on your set will know - so take a moment to inform people what to do in the event of a fire or if the building needs to be evacuated.
it takes a moment to consider these aspects. DO NOT COMPROMISE THEM FOR THE SAKE OF A SHOT.
Some of you have already shot your films for this module but you still may have other films you are shooting including self-shooting documentaries - this still applies.
here are the details of the Health and Safety training.
EVERYONE must do it- regardless if you have already filmed. It takes about an hour.
