Dear students,

Many thanks for your very useful contributions to our first face-to-face session this morning. Thursday's lecture (4pm, Bancroft 1.08) will introduce Antigone (The Burial at Thebes, in Seamus Heaney's translation) and set it in the wider context of tragedy in ancient Athens.

As I mentioned in today's seminar, next Monday's session will take the form of an inquiry hearing, set up to investigate the events and issues that led to the outcomes represented in the play. You'll be working in teams: one team will act as the inquiry panel, while the others will represent different figures in the play. The briefs for each group are available here - you'll find details of what each group should do to prepare for the hearing, and of what will take place during it.

These are the teams:

Team A (Inquiry panel) - Julia, Nia, Masha

Team B (Antigone) - Cameron, Keira

Team C (Creon) - Hana, Aqsa

Team D (Chorus) - Dorra, Max, Levi

Team E (Haemon) - Muna, Monica

For each group, I've set up a wiki in the Week 3 area of QMplus, so you can prepare your material together. Clicking on the team name above should open up the wiki - if that doesn't work, you can access it from within the Week 3 area. Once you're into the wiki, select 'Edit' from the drop-down menu. You can then either type text directly into the editing window, or copy-paste it from another app.

I hope this gives you a clear sense of how to prepare for the session - don't hesitate to get in touch if you have any queries. I'll be chairing the inquiry, ensuring that the right process is followed etc.

Best wishes,

Adrian
