The FSCS team has recently contacted us with an opportunity to intern with their DPO. 

Position Overview: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented part-time intern currently pursuing an LLM, with a background in law and privacy, to support the implementation of a GDPR Roadmap for the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). The intern will work directly with the Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure the successful delivery of remediation activities that enhance the FSCS's data protection and privacy framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the execution of the GDPR Roadmap, including reviewing and refining policies, procedures, and records such as the Record of Processing Activities (ROPA).
  • Support the design and documentation of an enhanced privacy operating model, clarifying roles and responsibilities.
  • Contribute to updates of privacy training materials and resources, ensuring alignment with FSCS goals.
  • Aid in data mapping exercises and the development of a privacy accountability model.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across legal, IT, and compliance to address identified privacy risks and gaps.
  • Support in the development of functional based training and Champion based training packages.
  • Help develop AI Governance guidelines and appropriate policies / procedures.
  • Provide research and analysis on GDPR compliance best practices, particularly in governance and accountability.
  • Help with the design and implementation of the controls framework and self-attestation requirements.
  • Help prepare materials for audit and risk committee reports and updates.

Ideal Skills and Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled on a Masters LLM program with a focus on privacy, data protection, or related areas.
  • Foundational knowledge of GDPR and UK data protection laws, including practical understanding of compliance frameworks.
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and drafting skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Prior experience in privacy compliance or a legal internship related to data protection is a plus.

Schedule and Commitment:

  • Part-time if preferable (Up to 20 hours per week) to fit in with student studies, flexible to accommodate academic commitments (exams). Could be full-time, but might need to be onsite Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
  • Remote work with occasional in-person meetings in London (if required).
  • Salary: £28,000 annum pro rata
