Interesting post. I find it quite hard to understand why certain incidental findings such as this require disclosure as well as constant monitoring and investigations in the long term. It seems like you have said that it really does do more harm than good. Especially if the marker used could potentially be due to other reasons. Even if it is 'pre'-myeloma, it will still develop regardless and there is nothing that can be done. The fact that you mention this usually occurs through private healthcare does beg the question of financial gains at the expense an individuals own peace of mind being the potential drivers behind this..
