Workshop: Prepare for the Fair - Monday 11th October, 9 – 10 AM

Are you booked onto the upcoming Queen Mary Law Fair and looking for more information on exhibitors and how to use a virtual platform for a careers fair?

Come along to this session hosted by School of Law Careers Consultant, Afua Kudom and Events Coordinator, Becky Gardner, to gain valuable insight into Graduateland (hosted online platform), how to navigate the platform, how to set up your profile and how you can get the most out of the fair.

 

Key Skills: Online Applications with Herbert Smith Freehills - Monday 11th October, 12 – 1 PM

At this session Herbert Smith Freehills will reveal their top tips for completing their online application form. They'll cover what sort of questions to expect, what firms are looking for, and tips and tricks for writing applications that stand out from the crowd – with plenty of time for Q&A

 

Explore: Vacation Schemes and Training Contracts - Monday 11th October, 6 – 7 PM

You’ve heard of them, but how are they connected, and how do you get one? In this session you’ll get insider tips from graduate recruiters and current and future trainees, to help you understand what law firms are looking for in applications and what life is like as a trainee.

How to Research Law Firms and Barrister's Chambers - Tuesday 12th October, 9 – 10 AM

For 23 years, Chambers Student has been intensively researching and independently reviewing law firms and barristers’ chambers to help students understand the legal market. Each year Chambers interviews over a thousand trainee lawyers, hiring partners and managing partners, whose comments offer the vivid insights students need to make good decisions and apply with confidence. 

In this session, Chambers will demonstrate how to get the most out of our research and analysis by discussing how to: 

·         Tell firms/sets apart and analyse them critically 

·         Make informed decisions 

·         Filter key market metrics 

·         Focus on what’s right for you 

·         Pass an interview. 

Come ready with questions for the Q&A at the end.

At this session, join Slaughter and May partner Robert Byk, for an insight into the firm’s interview process and top tips on how to perform at your best.

 

Explore: A Career at the Bar - Tuesday 12th October, 6 – 7 PM

Do you want to know more about life at the bar? If so, this is the session for you! Featuring a presentation from the Inner Temple and a panel of practising Barristers / QMUL alumni, you will learn about the qualification and training process and the day-to-day work of a Barrister.

First years: Where to start with Commercial law firms - Wednesday 13th October, 9 – 10 AM

Alison Peyton, Marketing Manager at Vantage, will be running a workshop on how to apply to commercial law firms and where to start. Alison is a former Graduate Recruitment Manager from a large global law firm, and is very experienced in advising students on how to navigate the application process.

Alison will talk you through her top tips on researching law firms, what skills you can start developing in your first year at university, how to demonstrate what law firms are looking for and how to get ready to apply for first year opportunities with law firms.

 

Key Skills: CVs with Jones Day - Wednesday 13th October, 12 – 1 PM

Join Jones Day current trainees (QMUL alumni) and graduate recruitment as they guide you through the Placement Scheme and Training Contract application process. From online forms to cover letters and partner interviews, their experience and advice will help enhance your application with practical tips and examples you can apply – with plenty of time for Q&A.

 

QMUL Law Fair  - Wednesday 13th October, 4 – 8 PM

The Queen Mary Law Fair, sponsored by Vinson & Elkins LLP is your opportunity to have one-to-one time with a range of employers who are specifically interested in Queen Mary students. This virtual event is being hosted on an experienced platform provider, Graduateland.

Whether you have decided your career path or are considering your options, virtual careers fairs are great for picking up a lot of information in one place. You can discover less well-known employers and understand more about what popular firms do. You get to speak to the experts, get a feel for the work culture and ask any questions you may have. The fair will be a great opportunity to expand your professional networks also, the conversations you have and the impressions you leave may very well be the starting point for your future career. Furthermore, it will be a great opportunity to speak to recruitment personnel and recent graduate hires to find out about current opportunities and get inside information on hiring and selection processes.

 

Key Skills: Case Studies with Mishcon de Reya - Thursday 14th October, 12 – 1 PM

At this session Mishcon de Reya will demystify case studies. You’ll find out why case studies are used, and at what point in the recruitment process, and you gain tips on how you can best prepare and excel.

 

Workshop: Getting Your Foot in the Door Thursday 14th October, 6 – 7 PM

Thinking of gaining some work experience and developing your skills but don’t know where to start or what would look good on your CV and applications? Come and explore the different types of formal and informal opportunities available and gain some tips on how to be strategic in your search.

 

Key Skills: Commercial Awareness with Freshfields - Friday 15th October, 12 – 1PM

At this session, join Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP for an insight into commercial awareness – they’ll tell you what it is, why it is important and how you can gain it.
