Dear all,

This message is to welcome you all to the beginning of the Health Systems, Policy and Practice module. We start next week on the 9th of November, running the module for 6 weeks until the 18th of December. Hope you had a good break during this reading week!

We are all in the expectation of meeting you over our incoming weekly seminars and webinars, by now you should have received an invitation with your allocated seminar/webinar group and time. Here are some things that we would like you to tell you before we start:

For people attending the onsite seminars:

·      All seminars will happen in the Bearsted Lecture Theatre, you just need to be sure about what time you are expected to turn up as we have 3 groups happening all on Thursdays, please keep to your allocated time as this has been planned considering social distancing and the space available

·      While in enclosed spaces (like a lecture theatre), you are expected to wear a face mask/covering at all times, following the QMUL Covid guidelines

·      We will be travelling to campus during a critical moment of the pandemic in the UK, England has started a month-long lockdown and education is one of the (not many) other reasons that people are allowed outside their households. This means that your journey to campus on Thursdays is as important as the hours you will spend there – remember to use a face cover and keep at least 2 meters apart from others outside your household

For people attending the Webinars:

·      Keep your cameras on (!!) – this is an educational activity like if you were on campus, which means that we communicate not only through words, but also with our facial expressions and reactions. Prepare yourself as if you were stepping in the class room (in fact you are, just in the virtual world), this means a better experience for everyone!

·      If you are not speaking, keep your microphone off/mute, this reduces the level of background noise and makes it easier for the tutor to coordinate the whole conversation process

And, finally, for everyone:

Pay attention to the videos and materials of each week. Everything there has been carefully planned to give you the opportunity of understanding the core aspects of Health Systems, from our videos to the reading materials – please give it all the same attention.

Engage with the forum discussions and attend your assigned group. Each module tutor will coordinate their own forum discussion on QM+, get to know your tutor and join the weekly theme. Every week we will post a video and some slides to help you making notes and preparing for your weekly webinar/seminar discussion.

We are all looking forward to see you soon, a nice weekend to you all
