Covid 19 and the biomedical frame

Hi all,

The biomedical frame crops up in this week's material. It is a dominant frame that is used to describe and understand global health, and also to inform policy interventions. In an 'Offline' comment from editor of the Lancet Richard Horton this week, he argues: "no matter how effective a treatment or protective a vaccine, the pursuit of a purely biomedical solution to COVID-19 will fail". It's an interesting read about how we are failing to understand the problem of Covid-19 (it is not one but two concurrent pandemics - a syndemic) and focusing on just one part of the problem won't help us address the challenge. If you have a few minutes, it is a great read - https://www.thelancet.com/action/showPdf?pii=S0140-6736%2820%2932000-6. I'd be interested to read what you think, so do post a reply here!
