An invitation...

Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s London Universities Insight Event, Tuesday 22 January 2019, 10.30 - 13.30

Location: Locarno Suite, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, King Charles Street, London, SW1V 2AH

The FCO believes that, as an organisation, we can only truly and effectively represent modern Britain if we reflect it. Our outreach programme, set up in 2013, therefore aims to engage with students of diverse disciplines and backgrounds and increase awareness of work and opportunities, especially to those who perhaps wouldn’t otherwise consider an FCO career.

The FCO invites QMUL students from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME), lower socio-economic status (LSES) and Widening Participation backgrounds to participate in a half-day insight event at King Charles Street and explore the UK’s diplomatic service and career opportunities at the FCO.

We believe we must bring diversity of thought, skills and experiences into the workplace in order to be the best diplomatic service we can be and champion this when we engage with students in our outreach programme.

The format will be a 3-hour morning event. This will include welcomes and introductions, presentations and panel sessions with staff and an interactive engagement session. There will also be opportunities for informal networking with our staff associations and to ask questions and engage individually with staff.

We would like to tell you who we are, what we do at the FCO and why you might consider applying to work for us. Whether it be sharing experiences and career stories about working as a diplomat, working overseas, life in the FCO office in London, the realities of working for the FCO, or offering insight and guidance into the Fast Stream recruitment process, we hope this might inspire you consider a Diplomatic Service career with us and find out about our recruitment opportunities and processes.
