I like the contrast you make Lucy, between a biomedical perspective - focused on physical functioning - and a more sociological perspective - focused here on the experience of illness, the disruption to a person's life and the potential impact of labelling.

Sandeep, as you say some 'quite extreme opinions', but how might you respond to Lucy's post by drawing on some of the sociological approaches that were introduced in last week's lecture? 

And to everyone: as sociology is about society and the way we live our lives, it's quite easy to slip into 'just chatting' rather than drawing systematically on the concepts and theories of sociology and anthropology. It doesn't matter at all if you post something in this forum which is 'only opinion' (the responses are not graded!) BUT to get in training for writing your essay, you might also want to get into the habit of citing evidence to support your statements in the virtual seminars!
