This course looks at the theory and practice of gender and politics, at the intersection of political science, sociology, gender and women's studies. It critically examines our understanding of the state, political representation, political institution, power, religion and technology through a gendered lens. It engages with feminist theories from both Western liberal/Marxist/radical strands as well as the ones arise from the global south. The course pays particular attention to the role of gender in authoritarian regimes and in developing contexts. Students will be exposed to scholarship from a range of disciplinary subjects and build a critical awareness of we think about the gendered nature of our political subjectivity and the political institutions that we live in.
