  Our in-class discussion on the first week of this module will be a debate on the following motion:
  “This house believes that there is no need in England and Wales for a specific law protecting privacy, as the Article 8 right is sufficiently well protected by a range of laws which overlap with the privacy interest in a range of circumstances.”
  
  Week 2's discussion will be based on the following motion:
  
  "This house believes that as a de facto privacy law, the tort of the misuse of private information has gone too far; it must be limited so as to exclude its application to false information, and also its use as a cover for poor behaviour by those in the public eye."

  "This house believes that the Defamation Act 2013, despite its changes to rules on serious harm, publication, and limitations upon bringing a case against online intermediaries, does not go far enough in addressing English law's fundamental bias towards the claimant in libel actions."

  "This house believes that Scotland Has It Right: the layout of the Defamation and Malicious Publications (Scotland) Act 2021 and the various similarities and differences show that Scotland has learned from the Defamation Act 2013, and its law is better."
