WELCOME TO ECS508U/ECS745P BUSINESS INFORMATION SYSTEMS
This module is about the ways in which organisations use information systems. It is concerned with the way in which business strategy drives the adoption of appropriate information systems within an organisation, and the ways in which those information systems may be implemented. It examines the way in which different technological, human and organisational components combine together to form an overall information infrastructure within an organisation, and the ways in which it evolves over time. We also look at how information systems enable links between different organisations, forming industry-level infrastructures through collaborative and virtual working. We look at the emergence of digital platforms and understand the ways they enable the formulation of business ecosystems that disrupt economic and commercial activity. We examine the political, social, moral, and legal issues relating to the use of information systems within organisations, and the implications these have for the way systems are developed and used.
