This course is concerned with the design of interactive computer systems. The focus is on theoretical issues and models rather than on the technology of interaction: it is about how to design systems that are easy or pleasant to use, but it is not about how to implement those designs in software. The course is intended to provide students with insight and experience in the key issues of the design process rather than providing a comprehensive coverage of the area. Students should come away from the course with the ability to identify issues and trade-offs in the design of interaction and to be able to invent and evaluate alternative solutions to design problems.
