Welcome to Quantum Mechanics and Symmetry

The aim of this course is to give you grounding in a more formal approach to quantum mechanics and introduce you to the application of these tools in the quantum mechanical description of symmetries in particle physics.

By the end of this module you will:

  • Understand what an abstract vector space is and how this concept underpins quantum mechanics in the form of Hilbert spaces.
  • Be able to translate what you have previously learnt about quantum mechanics into the Dirac-notation language of 'bra's and 'ket's.
  • Understand how quantum mechanical principles underly our picture of the sub-atomic and sub-nuclear world

Taught Sessions:
Queens' Building LG6 Mondays 14:00-16:00 (starting 23rd of January)
Geography Building 226 Fridays 14:00-16:00 (starting 27th of January)
