- Your module organisers and teaching assistants have weekly office hours where you can receive one-on-one assistance on any question you have about your module. You can find staff contact details and office hours here: www.qmul.ac.uk/sef/people.
- Our weekly classes are designed to be interactive sessions where students can receive support in small groups from our teaching assistants or lecturers. So, come prepared to your classes with your questions.
The Academic Skills Centre offers one-to-one tutorials, workshops, and a wide range of online resources to help you build the skills you need to succeed at university.
Particularly, among others:
- You can book an one-to-one tutorial with an Academic Skills Adviser: The Library Teaching and Learning Support team provide advice and guidance to help students to develop the academic and research skills they need to excel at university. They can help you develop a range of skills, including: Writing, Finding information, Using databases, Effective reading, Note-making and lecture skills, Presentation skills, Working in groups, Exam and revision skills, Time management, Using feedback, Referencing and academic integrity, Completing assignments, Maths and statistics. One-to-one support is centred around you and your questions.
- You can get advice on your writing from a Royal Literary Fund Fellow professional writer: Royal Literary Fund Fellows are professional writers who offer individual guidance on written assignments to Queen Mary students from all academic backgrounds. Students from any subject, undergraduate or postgraduate, are welcome to make use of the opportunity to discuss their work with a fellow.
- You can attend one of the workshops and events on various aspects of academic and research skills: You can go to a workshop to learn new skills, to follow up academic and research skills you are curious about, practice academic and research skills in an interactive environment , and get feedback from peers and tutors. See the calendar showing upcoming Teaching and Learning Events in the Library.
- You can get formative feedback on written assignments from the Studiosity tool. Upload a draft of your work for quick feedback to check you're on the right track. This is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Use our online resources to help you enhance your academic and research skills: Get access to reliable and trustworthy resources designed for Queen Mary students on referencing, writing skills, finding information, critical thinking, revision and exams, maths and stats, plagiarism and academic integrity, note-making, and time-management. See, for example, the Referencing Hub, where you can find information on the essentials of referencing plus links to additional support, advice and guidance which will help you understand what referencing is, why it’s important, and how to reference correctly.
- QM Elevate : Unlock your potential with our university-wide programme in academic and professional skills development. We run 5 and 10-week classes aimed at supporting you in your studies through honing your written and spoken communication. We also offer classes to help you communicate in the workplace with confidence and flair. The classes are free and open to all students, home and international, across all academic levels and programmes of study. - LinkedIn Learning courses: can help you develop the key academic, information literacy and digital skills that can help you thrive in your studies.
