SEF students have access to the Careers & Enterprise Centre at Queen Mary for the duration of their studies and for three years after graduating. In addition to the central support available, the School of Economics and Finance has a dedicated Careers Consultants who can help you with career advice, job applications, and internships. Students can book an appointment with one of the Consultants by logging into the Careers Hub.
Make sure you update your profile on the Careers Hub so we know what industries you are interested in and we can send you details of events and opportunities which are of most interest to you.

Careers Support:
Careers & Enterprise offers a range of support including:
- Support finding work experience, internships or a graduate job
- Providing feedback on your CV, cover letter or application form
- Interview skills – including mock interviews
- Choosing your career path
Work Experience:
Gaining work experience allows you to develop skills, make contacts and help you to make decisions about your future. Having experience on your CV will impress employers and increase your chances of finding work in the future. Our team offers various work experience opportunities find out about them by FOLLOWING THIS LINK or looking on the Careers Hub.
There will also be Careers workshops specifically for SEF students, in addition to the yearly in-curriculum module:
- ECN004 - Personal and Career Development Plan to first-year students, which will help students get started on their career journey and 'Spring into Finance'. The module aims to highlight the importance of gaining work experience in your first year, as well as the various opportunities available. Students will get the chance to build an industry relevant CV and develop their personal brand. The overall theme of this module is discovery and getting ready.
- ECN005 - Personal and Career Development Plan 2 to second-year students and will help students 'Think Like a Recruiter'. This is the second year of your Personal and Career Development Plan. This year will be centered around Labour Market Information (LMI), interview practice and preparing for Assessment Centres. Within this module, you will have the chance to practice your interview technique for placements and internship applications. We have even partnered with an external company to provide you with a real life Mock Assessment Centre Experience.
- ECN006 - Personal and Career Development Plan 3 The module builds on the Personal and Career Development Plan from year one and two and prepare students to 'Compete with Confidence'. ECN006 focuses on the Graduate Job Market, Further Study Opportunities and Building a Professional Network. Students are required to engage with a wide-ranging set of compulsory and optional activities designed to actively engage them in the development of their knowledge in pathways available for students of Economics and Finance.
