Section outline

  • You are invited to participate in 2 mock timed essay-based exams.

    1. There is a "general" essay-based mock exam below. You may familiarize yourself with exam instructions and practice writing a timed exam on a general question based on a broad background in Psychology.

    2. There will be a scheduled mock essay based exam that draws on content you've learning in your modules

      • Please download the question paper within the submission link. Write your answer within the same file, and upload it as your final answer. You can only upload one file.
      • You must submit by uploading your answer before the deadline.
      • There is no Turnitin report to view.
      • Your submission must be in Word (.doc or .docx) file format only.
      • No marks will be released after the assessment.

    • Year 2 Semester A: Essay-Based Practice Exam

The following is an combined practice exam paper for PSY211 Cognitive Psychology and PSY235 Comparative Psychology.

You will be given the choice of answering one of two exam questions. One question will be from PSY211 Cognitive Psychology and the other will be from PSY235 Comparative Psychology. You should choose to write one question in the practice exam, but please feel free to write the other one afterwards (and ideally before Week 12) as part of your exam preparation.

Your Lecturers will provide general feedback (based on your submissions) and indicative answers in the Week 12 Taught Sessions. We also recommend that you ask for feedback on your exam answer from Studiosity, our QMUL writing feedback service: https://qmplus.qmul.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=23843

There are two practice sessions to maximize student availability:

      • Session A: Wednesday, November 20, 2 - 4pm (plus 30 minutes to upload)
      • Session B: Thursday, November 21, 1 - 3pm (plus 30 minutes to upload)

The exams will become "live" and visible at the opening time.

UPDATE: Based on student requests, I will extend the Wednesday exam practice session until 4pm on Friday, November 22.

      • This means that the Wednesday session will not be timed like your final exam: you can open the exam and complete it any time between Wednesday, November 20 at 2pm and Friday, November 22 at 4pm.
      • In order to benefit from the practice exam exercise, we recommend that you complete the exam in exam conditions. Set your timer and give yourself a 2 hour "writing period", and a 30 minute "upload period". Find a quite place without distractions (e.g., no phone!), and practice writing a 2 hour essay-based exam. Upload your answer within 2 h and 30 minutes.

We will also publish the practice exam papers after Friday, November 22, in case you prefer to practice on your own. However, please note that your lecturer can only provide general feedback on the answers provided in the practice sessions.

You should pick one question to answer in the practice exam, but if you're in more than one module with a final exam, please feel free to write other answers afterwards as part of your exam preparation. The questions should largely test information that you have already learned in the module.
