The Dissertation in Politics/ International Relations is a compulsory final-year module for all students studying for SPIR-based degree subjects. It gives students the opportunity to study an agreed topic on an individual basis and to a greater depth than is possible within existing modules. Work begins towards the end of the second year, with students completing a Topic Proposal, being assigned a supervisor, and undertaking preparatory work during the long vacation. A programme of research workshops will be provided in the first semester and each student will have an opportunity to present their research to a small group in the second semester. Assessment is on the basis of two coursework assignments - a Research Proposal and Presentation - and a Dissertation of 10,000 words.
