WELCOME TO ECON 147

This practical module will provide a deep insight into the landscape and practices in private equity (PE) and venture capital (VC).  The course will combine sound academic theory with practice and will incorporate a PEVC ecosystem analysis, a review of an investment fund and deal lifecycle process, practical exercises in the art and science of valuation, growth strategies in portfolio management, a 360o pitching simulation  like Dragon's Den or Shark Tank (with both the perspectives of a Start Up Founder and a VC Fund Investor) and a review of the latest trends and complexities in the world of fund management, start-ups, scale ups, “unicorns” and PE leveraged buyouts.  Following this course, students would be better equipped to converse with a fund manager, pitch their ventures, analyse an investment opportunity, negotiate a basic term sheet, understand how to position themselves in the PEVC industry and consider the path of entrepreneurship or its financing.
