QMplus is not a media server, it does not cope well with large video files and is not optimised for providing access to video content to large numbers of users.  If you want to use video, you should use our media server QMplus Media.  It works a bit like YouTube in that you can upload your videos and then embed them wherever you like. Unlike YouTube, your videos are kept on a QMUL service and you do not need to have a YouTube account.  Students can also use QMplus Media with their standard QMUL logins.

This is an example of a video which is on QMplus Media and then embedded into a page in QMplus.

QMplus Media also allows you to have a media gallery in your module area. This is a place where you can gather together all the video content for your module and share it with your students in one place.  If you choose to, you can allow students to add to the media gallery and you can allow them to comment on videos.

Benefits of QMplus Media:

  • It is made for video, it can serve video content to large numbers of students on a variety of different devices with varying speeds of internet connection
  • It provides a tool for video creation called CaptureSpace. You can run this on your own computer to create screencasts and other types of video
  • It provides a variety of basic video editing tools
  • You can create simple interactive video quizzes
  • It allows students to create, upload and share their own videos
  • It comes with a "video assignment" that you can use to allow students to submit videos as coursework
  • You can embed videos from QMplus Media in any website, not just QMplus

For those who are interested, QMplus Media is powered by a system called Kaltura.
