AHRC - Arts and Humanities Research Council.

Athena Swan - Charter that was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research.

BBSRC - Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. 

BDU - Business Development Unit (QMUL).

BEIS - Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

DFID - Department for International Development.

e-GAP -  electronic Grant Application and Processing system. eGAP is used to submit the majority of grant applications to the Royal Society. 

Elements - Elements is a research information system collecting and providing data about scholarly outputs and other relevant research activities by Queen Mary researchers (QMUL).

EPSRC - Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Councils.

ERC - European Research Council. The ERC supports basic, interdisciplinary and exploratory research, following a bottom-up investigator-driven approach along 5 grant schemes.

ESRC - Economic and Social Research Council.

HEFCE - Higher Education Funding Council for England.

Horizon 2020 - Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion of funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market.

IOP - Institute of Physics.

Je-S -  Joint Electronic Submission. Je-S is used by AHRC, BBSRC, EPSRC, ESRC, MRC, NERC and STFC, as well as the Technology Strategy Board (TSB), Energy Technologies Institute (ETI) and National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs), to provide their communities with electronic grant services.

JRMO - Joint Research Management Office. JRMO supports researchers across Queen Mary, University of London and Barts Health NHS Trust (QMUL).

LMS - London Mathematical Society.

MySIS - Mysis is the web interface to SITS and is available to applicants, students and staff (QMUL).  

MRC - Medical Research Council.

MSCA - Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions. The MSCA provide grants for all stages of researchers' careers - be they doctoral candidates or highly experienced researchers - and encourage transnational, intersectoral and interdisciplinary mobility. 

NERC - Natural Environment Research Council.

NIHR - National Institute for Health Research.

QMI - Queen Mary Innovation. Queen Mary Innovation Ltd (QMI) is Queen Mary University of London's (QMUL) wholly-owned technology transfer company and responsible for the commercialisation and management of the University’s intellectual property and portfolio of spinout companies (QMUL). 

QMRO - Queen Mary Research Online. QRMO is the QMUL institutional repository.  

RCUK - Research Councils UK. The strategic partnership of the UK's seven Research Councils (AHRC, BBSRC, EPSRC, ESRC, MRC, NERC and STFC).

RDO - Research Degrees Office (QMUL).

REF - Research Excellence Framework. REF is the system for assessing the quality of research in UK higher education institutions.

Russell Group - The Russell Group represents 24 leading UK universities which are committed to maintaining the very best research, an outstanding teaching and learning experience and unrivalled links with business and the public sector.

SIS - Student Information System. SIS is the new QMUL database for student records (QMUL). 

SITS - Strategic Information Technology Services. SITS is the student record system used by the University.

STFC - Science and Technology Facilities Council.

UKRI - UK Research and Innovation.

UKRO - UK Research Office. European office of the UK Research Councils. UKRO's mission is to maximise UK engagement in EU-funded research, innovation and higher education activities.

WISE - Women in Science and Engineering.
