Log in to QMplus, go to your module page and in the SETTINGS menu click on Grades. You should see a column headed "Mid-term test", but if not then you need to add it; please see How to add a mid-term test mark column to the QMplus gradebook.

Entering marks directly into the gradebook

To enter marks directly into the gradebook, select Grader report (the default) or Marking report, whichever you prefer. Click in the "Mid-term test" column against the student for whom you want to enter a mark, enter the mark and press the Enter or Return key or click on another mark cell. You can sort the mark table by clicking on any column header that is displayed as a hyperlink, and in the Grader report you can select students by the first letter of their first name and/or surname. (You can also use the search facilities provided by your web browser.)

Importing marks from a file

To import marks, I recommend that you use a CSV (comma-separated values) file with at least two (comma-separated) fields containing for each student their 9-digit Queen Mary student identifier and their mark out of 100. If you want, you can export a template file by clicking on Export in the SETTINGS menu and then clicking on "Plain text file", which exports a CSV file (by default). Only the two columns headed "ID number" and "Mid-term test (Real)" are required for import and can be named differently, but a CSV file to be imported must have column headers.

Either put only numeric marks in the file to be imported into QMplus or delete any non-numeric marks before you import the file. Absent students should not be assigned any mark in QMplus. I will enter 0NS for absent students when I transfer the marks to MySIS and later this will be changed in MySIS to 0NA for any students with accepted extenuating circumstances.

In the SETTINGS menu, click on the Import sub-menu to expand it and then click on "CSV file". Use the drag-and-drop area or the CHOOSE A FILE... button to upload your mark file, click on the UPLOAD GRADES button, and check the preview. Assuming it looks reasonable, in the section labelled IDENTIFY USER BY select the heading you used for student identifier in the "Map from" box and select "ID number" in the "Map to" box. In the section labelled GRADE ITEM MAPPINGS find the heading you used for the marks on the left and in the box on the right select "Mid-term test". Click on the UPLOAD GRADES button. After a short pause you should see the message "Grade import success". Click on the CONTINUE button. This should take you to the Grader report where you can check the marks.

(Note that you cannot import directly into the Course total item in the gradebook, but you can import directly into a "New grade item", which you can rename later if you have not already set up a "Mid-term test" item; see the top of this page.)

And finally...

Ensure that students can view the marks, especially if you set the marks to be hidden while you were entering them!
