Module Registration for 2024-25

You will be able to pre-register for your modules next year during the following stages:

  • Stage 1Monday 18th March 2024 to Tuesday 2nd April 2024 – initial module selections
  • Stage 2 – Monday 8th April 2024 to Tuesday 23rd April 2023 – re-selection after capped module places have been allocated

You will do this by logging on to your MySIS account and selecting the ‘Module Registration’ menu, where you will find full instructions on how to complete the task.

We will be allocating Field Trip Module places on Friday 5th April 2024, and you will be contacted shortly afterwards to be notified either that you have a place or that you will need to select and add an alternative module to your module diet.

You can re-select between Monday 8th April and Tuesday 23rd April 2043.

ALL MODULE SELECTIONS SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY TUESDAY 23rd APRIL

You will be able to amend your selection of modules at the start of the next academic year - up until the end of the second week of Semester 1 (29TH September 2024)

  • Please note if you make changes to your selections at the start of the academic year, these will be subject to timetabling constraints

  • We cannot guarantee that clashes will be avoided as the timetable is created after the pre-registration process and will be designed around initial module selections.

Advice and Planning
  • Before selecting your modules, we recommend you speak to your Academic Advisor to discuss your options and to ensure you have selected modules which will compliment and build on those you have already taken. Please ensure you balance your modules across both semesters as much as possible so that your workload is manageable throughout the year.  Aim for 60 credits in each semester.

You can also make use of the resources in QMplus here to assist you in making your module choices:

  • The pre-recorded briefings for modules running in 2023-24

  • UG degree programme structure tables for 2023-24 with a list of modules, both compulsory and optional available for each degree programme

  • The Module information areas with convenor films and module outlines

Modules involving fieldwork

Fieldwork is an integral and compulsory part of certain second and third year optional modules.

Before registering for an optional module that includes residential fieldwork, please make sure that you fully consider the requirements of the field course:

  • Transportation arrangements
  • Travel and visa requirements
  • Cost of the trip (all field trips on optional modules are charged)
  • Venue and accommodation arrangements

IMPORTANT: Applying for a place on Level 5 or 6 optional modules with residential fieldwork

(This does not apply to GEG5216 Environmental Research in the Field which is a compulsory module for Physical Geography and Environmental Science programmes and includes a residential field trip).

  • You must apply for a place on an optional module with residential fieldwork using the module registration task in MySIS.

  • In the event of a field trip being oversubscribed a random allocation process will be undertaken to determine the cohort. Additional students will be placed on a waiting list in the random allocation order.

  • If you are not offered a place on the module, you will need to select an alternative module to take it’s place, even if you wish to remain on the waitlist.

The following fieldwork-based modules will run in 2024-25:

  • GEG5152 – Belfast: Political Geography in the Post Conflict City (2nd year code)
  • GEG6152 - Belfast: Political Geography in the Post Conflict City (3rd year code)
  • GEG5228 – Future Coasts (2nd year code)
  • GEG6228 – Future Coasts (3rd year code)

Additional Information:

As you develop your own interests and specialisation during the second and third years, every effort is made to assist you to tailor a programme of modules to your individual needs, so please make an appointment to talk to your Academic Advisor if you have questions or need further advice.

Please note the following restrictions for BSc programmes:

* BSc Geography / with Bus Man - no more than 30 credits of Human Geography modules can be selected in each year.

Students on Programmes with a Year Abroad

If you are taking a 4-year programme and are moving into your third year next year, you will not be able to select geography modules for 2024-25 on mySIS as it is assumed you will be studying overseas.

In March 2025, whilst you are overseas, we will get in touch and ask you to register for your Level 6 modules for the year you return to QMUL (2025-26).
