Using the EditShare - storing your video projects
When using the Macs provided for video editing in the Department of Film, you do not store your work on the Macs themselves. Instead, all of your files and video editing projects are stored on a dedicated server called the 'EditShare'. You log-on using a unique username and password (see below) which gives you access to a 'media space' - essentially a networked hard drive. You can access this from any one of our 24 Mac edit stations in G.21 and G.22. It cannot be accessed remotely from outside college. You edit directly to and from the server - it is not simply a backup location.
If you are working alone you will be given your own private media space and if you are working in a group, all the members of the group will have access to a shared space, but you must inform me who is working in which group. The media spaces will be called for instance, Activism01, Activism02 etc. You can log-in to the media space from any of the Macs using a username and password that's unique to you. You then edit as normal and log off when you are finished for the day. It is safer and more secure than working from a hard drive.
Your username and password are as follows:
Your username is your student number - the 9 digit code on your student ID.
Your password is your surname followed by the last three digits of your student number. If you have a 2 part surname name just use the last part.
If my student number were 123456789, my username would be 123456789 and my password would be jackson789.
You can change your password to anything you like after logging in the 1st time.
Please see the videos below and also the PDF uploaded to QM+ for instructions on how to use the Editshare.
Please use the server and do not store work on the Mac internal drives. You can work work from your own external hard drives if you prefer, but it is your responsibility to back up your own work. We cannot take responsibility for lost or damaged hard drives.
