Undergraduate Law Newsletter
Issue 18 October 2022

“I am pleased to introduce this first edition of the Undergraduate Newsletter. We know that you often receive information from a wide range of sources and that this can be a little overwhelming. This monthly newsletter aims to bring together valuable administrative information about your life in the Department of Law into a single publication. It is important for you to know where to go for advice and guidance when necessary and links to sources of help within the Department and the University more generally can be found below.  We will develop its content and focus over time. Your feedback is encouraged.

We are so pleased to have our students back on campus and to be able to deliver teaching in person.  It has been lovely to meet so many of you at the welcome events that took place.  I wish you every success for the semester ahead. If you have any questions or feedback, please do get in touch.

Best wishes,
Sanmeet Kaur Dua”

Global Day of Action 2022

In July 2019, Queen Mary Legal Advice Centre signed the Law Clinics’ Pledge for Climate Change:

“Climate change is one of the most significant social justice issues we face. Its impacts will be felt most by the poorest and most vulnerable. As a student law clinic with a commitment to social justice, we commit to raising awareness of the issues of climate change in our teaching, research and activism; and to finding ways to support law students to contribute to the struggle for climate justice.”

We will be participating in the fourth Global Annual Day of Action for Climate Justice on 17th November 2022. The Global Day of Action is an opportunity for student law clinics around the world to unite for one day and help raise awareness of a specific issue arising from climate change.  This year, the theme is Fast Fashion.

For further details please email g.obolo@qmul.ac.uk.

Legal Bake

The QMLC Great Legal Bake will be taking place on Thursday 24th November 2022 between 8.45am-4.15pm in the Law School Building Foyer area.

What is the Great Legal Bake?
The national event is an exciting annual campaign that brings the local legal and advice communities together to raise some dough to enable access to justice for all!

Why Bake?
Access to justice is out of reach for the poorest and most vulnerable in our community. In recent years, poverty has increased and support services have dwindled. The COVID-19 pandemic put additional pressure on the sector, and the sector will face an unprecedented challenge as we enter the cost of living crisis and more people than ever cannot afford the legal advice they need. The need for funding for specialist advice centers is vital now more than ever, and the Great Legal Bake is a great and fun way to raise money to support them.

Interested?
If you are interested in getting involved by contributing any bakes please email legal-advice-centre@qmul.ac.uk
