UG Finance Trading Programme (FTP) 25/26
Welcome to the UG Finance Trading Programme! The objective of the Programme is to provide you with a wide-ranging introduction to financial markets and to build a solid understanding of the structure, trading instruments, economic statistics, working practices and strategies of various market participants. The programme is designed to give you useful sources of information and to help you to interpret that information. While building up your knowledge we also look at how industry professionals interpret financial data in their everyday working lives. The field of finance is changing constantly with the advent of new products, technologies and working practices every year so it is important that you are well-informed and able to understand these advances, particularly as this will support your academic studies.
Practical Learning Objectives
The UG FTP also gives you the practical knowledge and understanding of financial markets. In particular, it seeks to do the following:
1. Introduce trading concepts and develop skills in sourcing and gathering financial information
2. To promote understanding of the structure of the financial markets from a trading perspective along with the participants, institutions, and their roles.
3. To explain the way in which primary participants like prop traders, asset managers and risk managers interact with financial information and data,
4. To introduce working practices in the financial markets linked to trading and asset management
The syllabus for each Module has been designed to lead you through a structured programme that enhances knowledge at each stage based on the previous learnt experiences. The objective is that you emerge from the course with a practical understanding of financial markets along with market intelligence and analytical skills that can be used to enhance your academic studies.
Programme Structure
The objective of the programme is to provide you with knowledge and practical user-experience of financial informational sources, working practices and technology and to explain how the financial markets work.
Each student should attend ONE class per module and there are five modules per Year Group per academic year. The programme is taught annually which enables all Year Groups to have classes. Students from each Year Group progress through the Programme and achieve module completion and end-of-year digital awards for Year 1, 2, and 3 when completed.
