Roles and Responsibilities

All apprenticeships contain an end-point assessment (EPA). This is a holistic assessment of the Knowledge, Skills and Behaviour (KSBs) that have been learned throughout the apprenticeship.

Your role as an IEA  involves assessing apprentices, following the same pre-set standard, regardless of where they are undertaking their apprenticeship or who they are doing it with.

To maintain independence within the scope of an EPA means you can only undertake end-point assessments of apprentices, with whom you have no conflict of interest nor have anything to gain from the outcome of the assessment.

Your main role is to decide whether the apprentice is competent enough to carry out their role and, therefore, pass their apprenticeship but here are other  roles and responsibilities:

  • Assess the performance of candidates in accordance with the relevant Assessment Plan
  • Follow the protocol set out in the assessment materials and quality assurance protocols
  • Ensure all EPA reports and assessment evidence are recorded accurately
  • Experience in using a wide range of assessment methods and evidence
  • Take part in regular training and standardisation activities
  • Maintain and provide evidence of ongoing and relevant CPD
