No one is going to mark your notes for spelling, but spelling is very important – poor spelling not only looks unprofessional, but can affect (as opposed to effect) the meaning of a word. The English language is full of homophones – words that sound the same but are spelt differently – with implications for how someone would read a piece of text.

e.g. During a horse-drawn parade The President of the United States remarked to the Queen of England on the length of her rein

rather than

During a horse-drawn parade The President of the United States remarked to the Queen of England on the length of her reign

(The first refers to the leather strap attached to the horse, whereas the second refers to the number of years since she ascended to the throne).

If there are words which you commonly misspell try practising their spelling to avoid unnecessary errors; you can also look up unusual or technical words to ensure these are spelt correctly.
