Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Preparedness
Dear GP Tutors/Practice Managers
Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) Preparedness
Staff and students have been sent the information below from QMUL with respect to the managing suspected cases of coronavirus.
It is likely that students may have concerns regarding their placement and health. The University is following advice from Public Health England (PHE). Please direct students to the University FAQ (link below) as this is the advice they must follow.
Please note the Medical School remains open and clinical placements will continue uninterrupted.
Should a student contact you by phone or email concerned that they may have the virus and they fall into the risk groups as advised by PHE please follow the advice below so that the student is assessed appropriately by 111.
You should also let us know at CBME (Lynne Magorrian l.c.magorrian@qmul.ac.uk) and we will notify student services.
Full information as given to University staff is included below
Please let us know if you have any queries
Best wishes

ADVICE FROM QMUL TO ALL STAFF
QMUL FAQ: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/media/news/2020/pr/coronavirus-advice-and-faqs.html (updated daily)
Should any students contact you by phone or email concerned that they may have the virus and they fall into the risk groups as advised by PHE (available here https://www.gov.uk/guidance/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-information-for-the-public)
• Advise the individual to call NHS 111: a thorough assessment will be made and advice about treatment or attendance by a health service will be given.
• Support the individual on the phone in calling an ambulance, if necessary.
• If the affected person is advised by a health service to stay at home awaiting test results you can refer them to Public Health England’s Advice sheet on home isolation and, if necessary, consult their checklist to assess whether residential accommodation is suitable for home isolation.
· Should a student who is unwell present to you in person you should follow your practice isolation procedures as advised by PHE (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/wn-cov-guidance-for-primary-care).
