Dear all,
The School of Economics and Finance welcomes you to the annual 2025 SEF Hot Topics Lecture event!
The purpose of the Hot Topics Lecture Series is to inform the SEF alumni and current students about recent developments in timely topics of interest to academia and the finance industry. These online events bring together well-known SEF academics and professionals, experts in their field, who convey their expertise to the audience followed by an interactive Q&A session.
This year’s theme will be Advances and Challenges in Labour Markets, and the event will take place online on MS Teams on Monday, 1 December 2025, 13:00–14:30 UK time. We are delighted to welcome:
- Simon Franklin (Associate Professor, SEF), whose tentative presentation title is “Labour markets in developing countries: Current state and advances”. Simon will present key findings from his research.
- Dr. Effie Achtsioglou (Member of the Greek Parliament; former Minister for Labour, Social Insurance and Social Solidarity, 2016–2019), who will speak on “Labor market reforms during crises, challenges and consequences: The case of Greece”. Effie will share insights from her policy-making experience, covering reforms during the Greek crisis, implementation challenges, their impacts, and ongoing labor market developments.
It’s a little taster of what’s happening in finance right now — right at your fingertips, and completely free to join.
