The Research Assistants (Student Interns) will support a Queen Mary cross-School project exploring how employability and experiential learning are and can be embedded in the curriculum. Working closely with the project leads and a Research Assistant, interns will help conduct focus groups with students, assist in analysing findings, and contribute to developing project outputs.

Role responsibilities

  • Assist in organising and conducting focus groups with students from participating Schools (School of Business and Management - SBM, School of the Arts - SOTA, and School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science - EECS).
  • Help transcribe and summarise focus group discussions.
  • Contribute to the analysis of student feedback and identification of key themes.
  • Support the preparation of short project summaries and visual materials.
  • Handle simple administrative tasks such as scheduling, communication with participants, and maintaining data records.
  • Attend online or on-campus meetings with the Research Assistant and project leads.

Experience / Skills

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills; confident engaging with peers
  • Reliable, well-organised, and able to manage time effectively
  • Interest in employability, education, or research projects
  • Ability to work collaboratively and follow guidance from supervisors
  • Experience working in a student-facing role (e.g., course rep., student ambassador) - Desirable
  • Experience facilitating group discussions or workshops - Desirable
  • Reliable, well-organised, and able to manage time effectively Experience with online collaboration tools (MS Teams, Forms, etc.) - Desirable
  • Awareness of employability initiatives at QMUL - Desirable
  • Initiative and willingness to propose ideas for improvement - Desirable

Qualifications

Current Year 2 or Year 3 undergraduate student enrolled in one of the following Schools: SBM (preference will be given to students from BSc Business Management), SOTA, or EECS
