Dear students,

I hope you had a good weekend.

As discussed, on Thursday we will continue our discussion on the first type of bilateral energy agreement (agreement for the joint development of common offshore oil and gas deposits, aka JDAs) and we will do  in-class exercise in which you will be able to compare three different models of JDAs. Since some of you struggled to access the energybilaterals.org website, I have uploaded the text of the three JDAs to be used (the same hyperlinked in last week's handout) on QMPlus (under Week 4).

In preparation for the lecture, please make sure that you:

 (1) read the text of these three JDAs

and

(2) read paras 75-86 of the Eritrea/Yemen PCA (1999) (click on the hyperlink)

The exercise is going to be quite interactive so please come prepared !!!

We will then move to the analysis of the second type of bilateral energy agreement: agreements for the joint production of hydropower. I uploaded the handout and materials on QMPlus (under Week 5). In preparation for the lecture, please focus on:

(1) McCaffrey's chapter (uploaded on QMPlus)

and

the Lac Lanoux case (hyperlinked in the handout).

I look forward to seeing you then - and since it is our last class before reading week and it is also Halloween I will bring some treats (you are welcome to bring some too if you want :)

All the best,

Tibisay
