Dear students,

As mentioned in yesterday's dissertation workshop, in addition to creating your own project on a global health topic entirely of your choice, we're really pleased that this year we also have 6 projects you can apply to work on with Newham Council's Centre for Health and Care Equity (5 projects) and Dr Victoria Tzortziou Brown (1 project). Please read this email carefully for details and instructions for how to apply to the projects. Please follow the instructions carefully.

Description of projects

Newham Centre for Health and Care Equity projects

  1. Barriers to continuing breastfeeding following discharge from hospital

  2. Understanding community-specific communication channels and methods

  3. Review 2nd dose MMR vaccination call/recall processes with Newham families

  4. Collect data and analyse the amount of Ultra Processed Food (UPF) being included in secondary schools in Newham

  5. Explore challenges faced by women in low income households with gestational diabetes in initiating and sustaining a health promoting diet for their families

Project with Dr Victoria Tzortziou Brown
  1. Outcomes of social prescribing in Northeast London

More details for each project can be found in the attached slides. These have also been uploaded to QMPlus under the 1st Dissertation Workshop tab on the Dissertation module page.

Application Process

To apply for the project(s) you are interested in, send an email to a.papamichail@qmul.ac.uk. Follow these instructions:

  1. Name the email 'Partnership project application'
  2. Clearly state in the email which project(s) you are applying for.
  3. You can apply to a maximum of 2 projects.
  4. Attach an up to date CV and a cover letter of maximum 300 words addressing a) why you are interested in the project and b) why you are suited to the project, covering any relevant skills or prior knowledge or experience.
  5. If applying for more than one project, please also write a cover letter for the second project you are applying for.

The deadline for applying is 4pm on Friday the 25th of October. Any applications received after this deadline will not be considered.

If there are more applicants than projects, Dr Fiona Samuels and I will go through the CVs and cover letters and pick the applicants that are best suited. We hope to pick students for projects the following week. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee a project for everyone. For that reason, you should still be thinking about your own topic ideas and coming up with a research question ahead of the next dissertation workshop.

Best wishes,

Andreas
