Dear all,

Welcome back and Ramadan Mubarak to all who are celebrating this special month!

I have a few POL361 announcements to make, so please read this email and do get in touch if you have any questions.

SEMINARS (Miranda’s Friday groups only)

Please note that your rescheduled seminar, which makes up for the cancelled session in Week 4 on Intersectionality, is taking place tomorrow (Wednesday, 13 March) at 12pm in the Graduate Centre, Room GC-222.

ASSIGNMENTS

A quick update regarding AS1. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, the grades and feedback will now be released on Monday, 18 March, at 9am. I apologise in advance for the slight delay and thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

AS2 is due on Monday, 25 April, at 1pm. As you know this is an article review, so please read instructions carefully and make use of Advice and Feedback hours with me or your tutors, this week and next week, to discuss feedback from AS1 and/or plans for AS2. We’ll also make sure to devote some time to discuss any questions about the assignments in upcoming seminars.

AS3 questions are now available on QMPlus. Rest assured we will also be making time to address this final assignment and answer any questions during seminars and our final lecture.

EASTER HOLIDAYS

As many of you may know, the University will be closed on Good Friday (29 March). Because most of our seminars and the lecture for POL361 fall on a Friday, these have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Seminars on Thursday, 28 March, will run as normal. I will be back in touch next week to explain what content will be covered during these sessions.

UPCOMING EVENTS

A couple of events taking place in London that may be of interest:

‘A Manly Place’ The Experiences of Women in Parliament after 1997.

On Tuesday, 19 March, the History of Parliament Trust is bringing together a panel of experts to reflect on the changes in the lives of women parliamentarians from the 1997 intake to the present day.

You can book a place at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/a-manly-place-the-experiences-of-women-in-parliament-after-1997-tickets-830344812687

Free Exhibition: Acts Of Resistance: Photography, Feminisms and the Art of Protest

This is now open and on display until 9 June 2024 at the South London Gallery (65 Peckham Rd, London SE5 8UH).

You may also want to check out the list of related events, as there are some exiting workshops and talks being organised on the theme of feminisms and resistance.

That's all for now. I look forward to seeing you all in seminars this week to discuss the readings on Afghanistan!
