Please take a few minutes to read the important information below about enrolment, meeting your academic advisor, your Welcome Week timetable and key dates to be aware of. There’s also plenty of information available on the Welcome area of QMplus.

You can also find a wide range of information about joining Queen Mary on the new students website.

Enrolment

Enrolment is an online process where you officially register as a student at Queen Mary. Once enrolled, you will be eligible for a Student ID card as well as official Queen Mary documentation such as a Student Status Letter which evidences that you are a student. Find out more about the enrolment process.

Enrolment takes place in two stages:

1.       Pre-Enrolment: This is an online task where you provide information about yourself and upload proof of identity (eg passport) and a photo for your student ID card. If you require immigration permission in order to study in the UK, you must also upload evidence that you have this permission. You should have been sent an email after 21 August to invite you to Pre-Enrol and guidance on how to access MySIS (our student record system) in order to complete the task.

2.       Queen Mary Enrolment: This is when the information and documents you have provided are checked before you are granted full or temporary enrolment. Please note that if you have not provided sufficient ID or evidenced your immigration permission (if applicable) then your enrolment will not progress and you will be contacted to request you upload the necessary documentation.

ID Card Collection

Once you have full or temporary enrolment, you will be eligible to collect your Student ID Card as directed by Registry Services. You will be able to book an early ID Card collection slot during Moving in Weekend once you have completed Pre-Enrolment (while spaces are available). Otherwise, you can collect your ID Card during an allocated timeslot during Welcome Week as follows:

Where: Octagon

When: 20th September

Time: 13:15-13:45

Welcome Week

Welcome Week takes place from 18th-22nd September and is your first opportunity to explore life as part of the School of Language, Linguistics and Film at Queen Mary.

Throughout Welcome Week, you’ll get involved in a wide range of activities and events introducing you to your course and fellow students, get an overview of the services available to support you during your time at here, and discover the many ways you can get involved in university life.

You can find your Welcome Week timetable on QMPLus.

Please see the schedule on the Welcome Week page for where you should be and what we are running. You are expected to attend all of the sessions relevant to you, as they will give you essential information for making the most of your time at Queen Mary.

There will be an SLLF party on Tuesday 19th from 3pm-5pm, all students welcome!

Diagnostic tests

All students enrolled in a language programme are required to take a placement test to help identify your entry level. Please complete your language test as soon as conveniently possible.

Click here to go to the placement tests page.

There is currently a technical error for the French placement test, please bear with us while we work on fixing this issue.

Your advisor

Every student will be assigned a member of academic staff who will act as your advisor. Your advisor is responsible for supervising your academic progress, as well as providing pastoral support.

You’ll be sent further information introducing your advisor and your first meeting with them via email.

Key term dates

Teaching begins on 25th September.

Exam dates

Semester 1 exams take place between 4th Jan-19th Jan 2024.
