In Canada, studies have shown that the average time spent with one patient is 7 minutes in the fee for service model and the average time before a physician interupts a patients initial opening is in the order of seconds. Hardly a model for dealing with chronic disease! Hence the proliferation of novel Primary Care models incorporating allied health practitionners such as advanced nurses, physiotherapists and psychologists.
