An Introduction to Public Relations (PR) with Liberty Communications, Wednesday 24th March, 13:00-14:00
This session will be delivered by James Meredith, Head of Strategy and Planning at Liberty Communications, an award-winning PR agency specialising in technology. James will provide an overview of Liberty and Public Relations (PR) as an industry. This will include a look at what makes a good news story, crisis communications, and the skills you need to succeed as a PR executive, including day-to-day tasks and responsibilities. At the end there will be time for a Q&A.

Female Empowerment in the Workplace, Thursday 25th March, 17:15-18:30
This event is hosted by the Queen Mary Students' Union. Employable Me is a series of network sessions and workshops focusing on certain social aspects of employability. Through conversation and discussion, these events will help you understand how your unique skills and experiences can impact your employability and future in the workplace. In conjunction with International Women's Day this March, the event will be celebrating the accomplishments of women in the workplace! We will be looking at raising awareness of diversity within leadership, support for professional development, equality of treatment, and workplace culture!

Make a Difference: Hear about working within Public Services – Thursday 25th March, 18:00-19:00
This is an event exclusively for Queen Mary students, hosted by Serco. Whether you want to stay in London after University or explore opportunities in the rest of the UK, if you’re looking for a graduate role where you can make a difference.. join this session where services they provide touch the lives of millions of people every year - from the people who use the train and ferry services they operate, to the hospitals they support, the prisons they run, and the household bins they empty. Serco is a great place to build your public service career as you’ll take on important responsibilities and gain practical operational experience working at the frontline on its contracts, or within our busy functional teams. Also, with no specific degree or grade needed, the programme is open to all. The session will be joined by the Serco graduate recruitment team as well as a number of its current graduates, who’ll talk through their experiences of the programme and what you can expect when you apply.
Women in Science and Engineering: IWD 2021 Conference – Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th March
On 25th-26th March 2021, WISE@QMUL will celebrate International Women’s Day through a two-day virtual conference with the themes of ‘Ethnic Minority Women in STEMM’, and ‘Future Directions and Priorities for Women in STEMM’. This is a unique opportunity to celebrate women in the field of science and engineering who have had remarkable journeys and broken glass ceilings, whilst encouraging young female scientists to pursue careers in STEMM. Our expert speakers will share their brilliant work and career experiences with the next generation of women in STEMM at QMUL and beyond. The conference will be a prime opportunity to provide the audience with examples of STEMM careers and views on the future of women in STEMM and the experiences of BAME women in STEMM. Ranking first place for equality and diversity this year, we hope to build on the work already done by staff and students at QMUL and contribute towards being “the most inclusive university of its kind, anywhere”.

Launch: University Innovation Challenge hosted virtually by DXC Technology, Wednesday 24th March, 10:00-11:00
Welcoming all students from all subject backgrounds, to join DXC's Virtual University Innovation Challenge. Students of all backgrounds working in teams of 3-5. Enter as a team or solo entries. Students will be tasked with developing an innovative technological idea over the course of a week and presenting back to a panel of DXC staff ‘Dragons Den’ style. Build upon your existing employability skills for the world of work, such as team working, presenting, problem solving & decision making. The first launch event will take place on the 24th of March from 10am until 11am, where we will pitch the challenge to participants. Following this, participants will be broken into teams, where you work together to develop an innovative technological solution to a problem. During the week, a number of drop-in sessions will be available to answer any questions you may have.

Please note: you must attend the launch event on the 24th of March to take part in this challenge.
