There are two brilliant events this week!

The first is this evening (Tuesday 2nd March): the Humanities virtual networking evening, from 5pm - 6.30pm.

We have a great range of different QM alumni personalities coming along to share their stories with you. They work areas from publishing to working in government, to academic research to charity work, and many more (full guest list below).

You can click the link above to book onto the session, or to join directly you can follow this link https://qmplus.qmul.ac.uk/mod/collaborate/view.php?id=1548764 from 16.50 onwards. You will need to login to QMPlus. Please self-enrol if asked. You will then get to the QMUL Careers Events page. You should see the event as the first on the list on the page. It’s called ‘02/03/21 What do Humanities Graduates actually do?’

People talk about the importance of online networking (especially during the pandemic) but it can sometimes be difficult to get started. This event is specifically designed for beginners – we are trying to create safe spaces where you can feel comfortable to listen and/or ask questions. You’ll be in small groups of students with one or two alumni per group. You will have 10-15 minutes with the alumni before they rotate rooms. They will introduce themselves and then you will have the opportunity to ask questions if you want to. Here’s a few questions you could ask (just suggestions, feel free to ask whatever is on your mind):

  • What kind of work experience did you require/do you recommend to get involved in your field?
  • How did you go about gaining relevant work experience?
  • How important was past work experience in getting a graduate role?
  • What aspect of your job do you enjoy the most/least?
  • What does a typical day in your current role look like?
  • What was/were the most important skill/s you took forward from your degree into the workplace?
  • Any tips on how to demonstrate on a CV or Application on how to make a Humanities degree relevant to the role you are applying for?

Hope to see you there! If you can't make it tonight, we have a brilliant English panel tomorrow, Wednesday 3rd March, where you'll have another opportunity to hear from alumni.

Best,

Fliss
