UPDATE ON COVID-19 AND ONSITE TEACHING

Hi everyone,

Please see below an important update from Professor David McCoy.

Best wishes,

Andrew

Dear all,

Inevitably, Covid-19 is impacting on teaching and learning in the university.

One of us (a student) has had a positive Covid19 test. The student is asymptomatic and is now in isolation. We also have a number of students belonging to halls of residence whose occupants are being asked to self-isolate.

The detection of Covid19 positive tests in universities is not unexpected. And the country as a whole is struggling with getting the right balance between giving students a reasonable and normal social and educational life (as well as value for money); and controlling transmission and protecting those who are vulnerable to the disease.

Both students and staff are being given the option to decide on what they are comfortable with.

As far as your current teaching is concerned, we will continue to provide a mix of online and onsite teaching as best and as safely as we can.

Please note that Dr Giuliano Russo will be running a Dissertation seminar on Friday this week as scheduled.

However, if you previously opted for on-campus seminar teaching but you now have to self-isolate, please let Maddy know so you can be allocated to a webinar group.

Similarly, if you previously opted for on-campus seminars, but you now want to change to online learning only – please let Maddy know so you can be allocated to a webinar group.

As long as we continue with any FTF teaching, please can I remind you of the continued importance of observing the Covid code of conduct. And of thinking of those who are at heightened risk of a severe illness.

Thanks and all the best,

David
