Three very interesting papers chosen so far. The papers chosen by Amelia and Obianuju highlight the value of investigating discourse in terms of communication between clinicians and patients. The paper chosen by David looks at communication within a family. Although brief (as we said they should be), the comments about these studies clearly identify some helpful points about the value of studying communication as social interaction between people (rather than as one-way).
Linked to this, I get the impression that you have got something from reading these papers about small-scale qualitative studies that you all feel will be useful for your roles in healthcare. Could you say a bit more about what it is that you liked about reading the papers that was different from reading a quantitative paper? Also, with a critical eye, were there things you found frustrating about them at all?
